DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - The Decatur City Council approved a development agreement Monday night for a proposed billion-dollar power plant.
Broadwing Energy will build a gas-fired facility along Brush College Road, which will produce electricity and steam for ADM and Google.
The project is expected to provide 30 full-time jobs and bring in an estimated $13 million annually in revenue to the city.
Under the agreement, Broadwing will pay for a new water main to support the plant.
The City of Decatur and Broadwing will split the cost of a new sewer lift station.Â
Decatur officials assured that this power plant is good news for Decatur's economic future. Broadwing expects to permanently store more than 2 million tons of CO2 emissions underground each year and will sell its energy to ADM and Google.
