DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The Decatur City Council awarded grant money to eight local nonprofit organizations.
Each organization received up to $10,000, a boost that recipients say will make a big difference in serving their communities.
The Decatur Area Arts Council was one of the recipients. Executive director Jami Fawley said the recognition means everything.
"Being recognized as one of the recipients tells us that city leaders value the work we do here, and they understand the significant impact we have on the community," Fawley said.
The Arts Council will put money into programs that give parents and caregivers time to run errands while their kids take lessons.
The Children's Museum of Illinois also received the $10,000 grant.
CMOIL Executive Director Rikki Parker said all of the funding is going toward a program that helps large families access the museum.
"A family of four would typically pay $48 to visit the museum, but through the Museums for All program, they can come and play all day for just $12," Parker said.
