ARCOLA, Ill. (WAND) - Two people were taken to a hospital after an Amtrak train collided with a truck in Arcola on Tuesday.
An Amtrak spokesperson told WAND News the train was traveling from Chicago to Carbondale when it hit the truck just after noon. It happened at the crossing on Springfield Road near Chestnut Street.
A person who answered the phone at the Arcola Mayor's Office initially said there were no injuries. Amtrak said there were "no major injuries" to the 66 passengers or the crew members. But Illinois State Police told WAND News that two people later requested to go the hospital.
An Amtrak train collided with a truck in Arcola Tuesday.
Amtrak said passengers where relocated to a nearby community center. They were then taken to their destinations by charter bus.
It's unclear whether the truck was stopped on the tracks or if something else had caused the collision.
The crash is under investigation.
