URBANA, Ill. (WAND) — Officials were asking people to avoid an area on the University of Illinois campus Wednesday after hazardous materials were released.
According to an Illini Alert sent just after 11 a.m., hazardous materials were released at 205 N. Mathews Avenue, which is the Nathan Newmark Civil Engineering Laboratory.

The Illini alert said anyone in the area should leave if safe to do so.
It is unclear what the hazardous material was.
Another alert sent out just before 11:45 a.m. said the emergency ended and it is safe to resume regular activities.
