SAVOY, Ill. (WAND) — The Junior League of Champaign-Urbana (JLCU) is set to dissolve at the end of the month.
JLCU is an organization of women committed to advancing women's leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration and training, according to the organization's website.
In a letter from JLCU President Michelle Marquart, it was announced that a majority of the league's active members voted to officially dissolve the organization during a recent meeting.
"Obviously, this is sad news, but it seems to be the best course of action given our current circumstances," Marquart said in the letter.
The JLCU's relationship with the Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) will end with the current league year on May 31. However, Marquart said the organization will continue to operate as a nonprofit until "all legal, financial and logistical matters are resolved."
According to Marquart, the JLCU is creating a task force to help the board, focused on preserving the organization's legacy by archiving important documents, photos and mementos.
She said they also plan to convert the members-only Facebook group into a JLCU Alumni group so members can continue to engage with each other and plan occasional meetups.
Marquart encouraged all members to consider transferring to another league. More information on the JLCU can be found on the organization's website.
