MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) — The City of Mattoon lifted its do not drink order after an algal bloom left the area without usable tap water for over two days.

The city says water quality sampling showed the algal bloom neurotoxin level was a .252 parts per billion. The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency's do not drink advisory threshold is .3 parts per billion.
City officials say residents should flush cold and hot water lines separately for 5-10 minutes before use. They also say to throw out old ice and replace any water filters.
