DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - Decatur residents will see new hardware coming soon to their city buses.
Decatur Public Transit shared on Facebook Wednesday that it will install new fare validators. The kiosks will validate trips through a QR code or by tapping a reloadable rider's card.
DPT stated that cash and tokens will be accepted as it transitions to the new system. Free and discounted rides will additionally be offered to qualified riders.
DPT also said that it has created a new mobile app called Decatur Transit Pay, where riders can manage money on their rider cards and generate QR codes for one-time trips.
Decatur Public Transit anticipates that the validators will be ready in early March.
