Family loses everything in Buffalo house fire

BUFFALO, Ill. (WAND) - Firefighters are asking the community to come together and support a Buffalo family with five young children who lost everything when their home burned down. 

The Buffalo Fire Protection District was called to a house in the 300 block of S. Walnut St. in Buffalo around 5 p.m. Jan. 31. 

Heavy smoke and flames were visible through the roof of the 1.5 story residence.
 
The family and pets were all able to safely get out of the house before firefighters arrived. 
 
The house became structurally unsound while crews were trying to fight the fire, and they had to pull back and put the fire out from the outside. 
 
The family consists of two adults, an 8-year-old boy, a 6-year-old boy, a 4-year-old girl, a 2-year-old girl, and an 18-month old boy. 
 
The fire protection district posted items that are needed by the family. They asked people to message them on their Facebook page to facilitate a drop off of any items. 
 
Items requested include: 
  • Boys 7/8 clothes and size 2 youth shoes
  • Boys 6 clothes and size 1 youth shoes
  • Boys 18 month clothes and size 3-4 child shoes
  • Girls 6 clothes and size 11 child shoes
  • Girls 2T clothes and size 7-8 child shoes
  • Size 3 and size 4 diapers
  • Womens 2X-3X clothes and size 8 shoes
  • Mens XL-2X clothes, 38/32 jeans, size 10-11 shoes, reflective clothes for his job
  • Hygiene products
  • Toys (older boys love LEGOS, cars, wrestlers), (girls love Barbies and baby dolls), coloring books and materials
