DECATUR, IL. (WAND) - Happy Friday! The National Weather Service continued its survey of the storm damage caused by Wednesday’s severe weather event. As of Friday night, there are now 7 confirmed tornadoes across Central Illinois, 6 of which fall within the WAND viewing area.
Of those 7 tornadoes, the strongest was the EF3 tornado that swept through northern Effingham County. That tornado was on the ground for 26.2 miles, equivalent to the distance of a marathon. 150 mile per hour wind gusts also came with that tornado that was on the ground for 32 minutes.Â
Across the area, other confirmed tornadoes include: north of Mattoon-Charleston, rated EF2; north of Springfield, Blue Mound, Bethany, and Grove Township, rated EF1; and Pawnee, rated EF0. If any more information is released, we will keep you updated.
