SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — Inspectors with the Illinois Department of Labor (IDOL) are prioritizing ride safety ahead of the Illinois State Fair.
IDOL inspectors are on site ensuring that every ride is examined and approved before they open to riders.
The State Fair is IDOL's second biggest annual inspection effort behind Six Flags Great America.Â
"Public safety is our top priority. Each ride is carefully inspected to make sure it meets all safety and structural standards," said IDOL Amusement Ride and Attraction Safety Division Manager Brian Fox. "If you see the IDOL permit sticker, the ride is approved for use."
IDOL has a team of 6 inspectors that examine the rides and attractions at setup and throughout the fair.
The department suggests reviewing ride safety tips with children before visiting the fair. Some tips are reading all safety signs, watching the ride before getting on it and staying in the seat until you are told to exit.
