UNION, New Jersey (NBC) — Authorities in New Jersey are investigating a mass shooting at a Chick-fil-A that left one person dead and six more wounded.
The Union County Prosecutor’s Office said it was investigating a Saturday night shooting at the restaurant located on Route 22 in Union.
Responding officers found seven shooting victims, one of whom died from their injuries, the office said. The six other victims were expected to survive.
“While no arrests have been made at this time, the preliminary investigation reveals this does not appear to be a random act of violence and that there is no immediate ongoing threat to the general public,” a statement from the prosecutor’s office said Sunday afternoon.
Blood was visible inside the front door and there was still garbage on the ground inside the restaurant the next morning.
Gov. Mikie Sherrill said she was grateful to the swift action by first responders in a statement released Sunday.
"We now know that last night’s shooting in Union Township tragically claimed one life and left six others injured,” the governor said.
"Our hearts go out to the victim’s loved ones, and we are hoping for the full recovery of those who were injured.”
A spokesperson for Chick-fil-A declined to offer a statement and directed questions to police.
