PARIS, Ill. (WAND) - Paris city officials said the public beach will be allowed to reopen for the season following results from its latest water sample test.

The Paris Communications Director told WAND News on Friday that its water superintendent said the water samples "came back good."

The City of Paris announced on May 22 that it closed its beach after high levels of coliform were detected in the water.

According to the New York State Department of Health, coliform is bacteria present in human and animal waste, along with plant and soil material, and can also include bacteria like E. coli.

It remains unclear which specific bacteria were detected to prevent the beach from reopening earlier.
