(WAND) — Whether you're new to canning, or a preserving pro, these University of Illinois Extension workshops will help transform your produce into delicious jams, pickles, fruit leather, and more.
Preserve at Home will be offered from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Illinois Extension offices in DeWitt, Macon, and Piatt counties. Participants will learn essential skills and discover valuable resources to safely water-bath and pressure can, as well as preserve through freezing, drying, and fermentation.
“Everyone, from newbies to seasoned pros, will learn up-to-date information and new techniques for safe home canning and preserving,” said Nutrition and Wellness Educator Caitlin Mellendorf.
June 3: DeWitt County Extension Office, 1160 IL 54 Suite B, in Clinton (register by May 30)
June 10: Piatt County Extension Office, 210 S. Market St., in Monticello (register by June 6)
June 17: Macon County Extension Office, 3351 N. President Howard Brown Blvd., in Decatur (register by June 13)
Participants attending the workshop may bring dial gauge pressure canner lids and gauges for a free accuracy test. Recipe samples will also be provided for those in attendance.
There is a $5 fee for each workshop.
