(WAND) - Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul and 20 other state attorneys general have filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration over "unconstitutional" attempts to put conditions on USDA funding.

The lawsuit asks the court to block the conditions relating to immigration, DEI and gender identity issues.

The coalition cited the issues as unrelated to the purpose of USDA's funding.

"The USDA is trying to force states like Illinois, which have no choice but to accept vital funding for these programs, to comply with illegal conditions. I am proud to join my coalition partners in fighting back against this coercion and refusing to adopt this administration’s unlawful policies that attack our residents," Raoul said in a statement.

Included alongside Raoul were attorneys general from Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Virginia and Washington.

According to the Illinois Attorney General's office, one in 20 Illinois residents receives The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) food, which delivers nutritious, locally sourced meals to families in need.
