DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The Children's Museum of Illinois is partnering with Millikin University to bring chemistry to kids with a pair of programs Saturday.
ChemGirls and ChemKids are two programs designed to connect kids in 5th-8th grade with chemistry in a fun way. Both offer two one-day camps where kids experiment with colors, dyes and "unconventional materials" in the classroom.
The final session for both programs is set for Saturday, October 18. They will run from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Millikin's Leighty-Tabor Science Center, and will focus on natural and man-made compounds used for tie dye and henna tattoos.
"Early exposure to chemistry experiments allows youngsters to explore, encourages persistence in STEM, and keeps their future opportunities open," said Millikin Professor and ChemGirls/ChemKids Instructor Dr. Anne Rodriguez. "Many professions benefit from the critical thinking skills taught in math and science."
More information on the programs can be found on the Children's Museum website.
