CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — The City of Champaign Township is accepting applications as it begins the search for a new township supervisor.
Former Township Supervisor Kyle Patterson submitted his resignation effective November 18.
The city is now accepting applications from qualified candidates to be considered for the open position for the remainder of the term, which is until May 2029.
Anyone looking to be appointed township supervisor must meet all of the following requirements:
- Must be a member o the same political party as the incumbent (Democratic party)
- Must be a legally registered voter in the City of Champaign Township
- Must have been a resident of the City of Champaign Township for at least one year prior to appointment
- Must not have been convicted of any "infamous crime, bribery, perjury, or other felony."
Applications to fill the position can be downloaded from the City of Champaign Township's website. Completed applications must be received by the City of Champaign Town Clerk before 5 p.m. on December 16, 2025.
The town board plans to interview qualified candidates during town board meetings on January 6 and 7, 2026. The town board will vote on who will fill the vacancy at a special town board meeting on January 13, 2026.
