SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - Low-income Springfield families could soon get help saving on their power bills.

Springfield City Council approved almost $170,000 Tuesday night for the 2025 Helping Homes Energy Efficiency Renovation Improvement Program.

The program will cover the cost of retrofits to help cut down on electric use, including things like new insulation, central air, heat pump replacements and caulking.

Twelve properties have been chosen, and contractors have already bid out the work.
