SPRNGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - It will soon cost locals more for breaking parking rules in the City of Springfield.
The mayor said businesses are dealing with local workers taking visitor spots to park in all day.
Parking will remain free, but if your car is caught in a short-term spot longer than allowed, you'll be fined.
Alderman hope increasing the fee from $10 to $20 will encourage downtown employees to park in garages and other locations.
Fees will also increase for parking in a "No parking zone" on private property and other so-called improper parking.
The new policy takes effect immediately.
