SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The City of Springfield said last week's EF-1 tornado did not set off emergency sirens because it did not meet the activation conditions.

Springfield's fire chief stated that sirens go off when a storm meets at least one of four conditions, including golf ball-sized hail or a radar-indicated tornado.

The fire chief added the storm failed to meet the criteria based on information that was presented at the time.

Springfield Mayor Misty Buscher said the storm serves as a chance to see what went wrong and what to improve on for future storms.
