SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The Wakery, a late night coffee and non-alcoholic drink bar in Springfield, will close its doors next month.Â
The business announced in a Facebook post that their brick and mortar store will close up on August 10.Â
Elizabeth Wake, the owner of The Wakery, said in the post that the business has not been able to recover from the 2024 Adams Street fire. She also said that financial struggles and being located downtown hurt the bar.
"I still love downtown and think it holds so much potential, but without some major changes, we are going to see many more businesses close in the near future," the post said. "I could have decided to take on more debt, I could have taken a mortgage on my house, I could have applied for financing or additional loans, but I don't see the possibility of things turning around soon enough to make that a justified risk."Â
The bar will still be open for people to enjoy over the next month. After closing, the business will still host pop up events, especially around the holidays.Â
They will also offer wholesale options for businesses, and their products can still be found at The Railyard, Fluid, and Cat's Pyjamas.Â
Any rental booked with the business between now and September 30 will still be completed.Â
Their "last hurrah" will be the Wakery Week of Magic event from August 1-8.
