SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — The Railyard is an outdoor food court, providing a space for people to get together, make friends, and spend time with their family.
While the Railyard opened previously, this is the first weekend it will open under new ownership. Tim Lewis took over the property earlier this year, and the property will have its grand opening on Saturday, May 3rd, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
"We have six local vendors here, we have four that are outside and a bar and bake shop inside," said Lewis. "We also have live music, stand up comedy nights, trivia nights, and other events."
Lewis used to run 3Twigs in Springfield, but he stepped away to spend time with family. He said this new venture gives him more time to spend with family, while still pursuing his passion.
The restaurants at the Railyard are The Meatball Guy, The Drinking Well, Best Day Ever Bakeshop, Froggies Groovy Goodies, El Dorado, and the Stadium Bar and Grill. Lewis said this set up allows visitors to experience new restaurants without having to travel all over Springfield.
"Bringing them out to a new spot and giving them the opportunity to have new customers who wouldn't otherwise come to their place," said Lewis. "People from the North End who aren't going to drive to the south into Springfield, can now just drive a little bit and get their food that they've been wanting to try and vice versa."
Lewis plans to keep the Railyard open until October, depending on weather. For updated event schedules and menus, you can visit the Railyard's Facebook page or website.
