Dieterich train vs tractor

DIETERICH, Ill. (WAND) — A train hit a tractor, prompting a spill cleanup response in Effingham County on Saturday afternoon.

It happened in Dieterich, which is about 10 miles east of Effingham.

E-Environmental Solutions posted on their Facebook that they responded to a spill related to the crash and asked people to avoid the area around 2 p.m.

E-Environmental Solutions is a hazmat cleanup and response company based in Effingham.

Photos sent to WAND News by a viewer show a tractor towing an implement after being hit by a BNSF freight train.

The Effingham County Sheriff told WAND News the tractor was crossing the tracks when it stalled. The driver was not able to get it restarted before the train came and hit it. 

The train consisted of 118 cars and was being pulled by a BNSF locomotive. 

No one was in the tractor when it was hit.
