EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WAND) — A contractor was injured while working on the roof of a Kohl’s store in Effingham Thursday afternoon, prompting a response from local emergency crews.

The Effingham Fire Department was called to the Kohl’s location at 1600 Ford Avenue for a reported medical emergency involving a worker on the roof. Firefighters determined the injured person was a contracted worker performing roofing work at the time of the incident.

Because of the worker’s location and condition, crews used a platform ladder truck to safely reach the roof and bring the individual down to ground level. Once safely removed, the worker was taken to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
