MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) — Two people are dead after a series of crashes in Coles County on Thursday night.
The incident happened at the corner of Route 16 and Lerna Road in Mattoon.Â
A car crashed into a semi truck near the entrance to the Coles County Memorial Airport. The driver of the car was 84-year-old David Greeson from Neoga, who died.
After that accident, the Coles County Sheriff's Office says a pickup truck did not stop at a light and slammed into an IDOT truck that was blocking the scene just before 9 p.m.
The IDOT truck's fuel tank tore open and started a fire. The driver of the pickup was 61-year-old Charles S. Clinard from Mattoon. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Â
The IDOT truck drivers were not injured.
