SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - The United Way of Central Illinois has launched a Food Insecurity Fund to help local families struggling with rising food insecurity as SNAP benefits are set to end on November 1, 2025.

According to the United Way, nearly 37% of Illinois households live below the ALICE Threshold, meaning they struggle to afford basic necessities.

The new fund will provide emergency food assistance and support local pantries, helping families affected by both ALICE-level financial challenges and the upcoming SNAP benefit changes.

United Way is contributing $20,000 to ten food pantries and is encouraging donations of both funds and non-perishable food items from the community.

Families in need of food assistance can call 211 to connect with local resources.
