DECATUR, Ill. (WAND)- The City of Decatur is partnering with area groups to help educate more kids on bike safety.
The Jasper Street Implementation committee has launched the "Learn and Earn Bike Program."
Kids will have the opportunity to learn how to safely ride a bicycle. Â
Organizers say the group of kids involved come from a variety of skill levels.Â
"We have a couple kiddos that never been on a bike so they're learning how to ride a bike, and then we have kids that are more experienced with how to ride a bike, but not experienced with how to do that safely on a roadway, right." said Cordaryl Patrick with the City.Â
Patrick continued, "They're learning the safety of the different hand languages to use while riding on the street, but also how to maintain that bike at the same time."
After some practice riding, the kids will have a graduation-style ceremony to show they completed the program and will be given a bike and helmet as reward.Â
