LINCOLN, Ill. (WAND) - A Lincoln home was destroyed as firefighters battled not only the blaze, but also windy conditions.

On Tuesday, just before 5:30 p.m., Lincoln Rural Fire Protection District and auto aid departments were called to a house fire in the 1400 block of State Rt. 10.

When firefighters arrived, the single-story home was already completely consumed by fire.

Due to the high winds, the fire had also spread to nearby sheds, wood piles, and a harvested cornfield.

The owners were not at home at the time of the fire.

While some firefighters worked to extinguish the house fire, additional personnel with three brush trucks and several farmers with tillage equipment stopped the spread and eventually extinguished the field fire.

Rt. 10 was closed for several hours while tankers brought water to the scene.

The house was a total loss. No injuries were reported.

Assisting agencies included, Atlanta, Lincoln City, Beason, Chestnut, Hartsburg, Emden, Armington, Logan County Paramedics, Logan County Sheriff’s Department, and Middletown providing a change of quarters.
