OAKLEY, Ill. (WAND) — Planting season is on the horizon, but so is the ever-changing spring weather. Central Illinois farmers are planning for the future season, and preparing for the rain.
Mathew Muirhead of Muirhead Farms in Oakley, Illinois said they planted 220 acres of soybeans on Wednesday, taking advantage of the dried out ground before Thursday's rain.
"I think it's [rain] going to come back in this weekend. So we're trying to get the beans planted first, and then after that we'll get the corn planted." Muirhead said.
Len Corzine of LPC Farms in Assumption, Illinois said its important to be prepared for unpredictable weather.
"We have kind of a plan A, a plan B and a plan C, depending on what the weather happens to be. The good Lord takes care of us. But, also, we get some curves in the weather, it's all about adapting to whatever comes along."Â Corzine said.
Although they are at the whims of Mother Nature, Corzine said he's staying positive. "You have to be an optimist. I've always said that you have to be optimistic or you wouldn't farm." Corzine said.
