ST. JOSEPH, Ill. (WAND) – After a huge farm field fire in 2024, a local fire protection district is planning ahead for this year's harvest by asking for help from area farmers.

“We had a really huge fire over with Ogden-Royal and they brought us like 25 fire departments,” said St. Joseph-Stanton Fire Chief Josh Reese. “So, we’re trying to get some farmers with tractors and tillage tools that are hooked up so we have their phone numbers ahead of time.”

Farmers who would like to help should call the non-emergency number for the department at 217-469-7398 and leave a message.

The farm equipment can be used to contain the fire and create a break in the field.
