ASSUMPTION, Ill. (WAND) – A car passenger is dead after an intersection crash in Assumption.
State police say it happened after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, when the driver of a gray 2013 Dodge Avenger, identified as 64-year-old Rankin man John Brophy, drove along Route 51 and hit a brown 2016 Buick LaCrosse. They say the Buick, which had an 84-year-old woman behind the wheel, entered Route 51 from Christian County Road 6 before it was hit.
Responders had to remove an 87-year-old man from the Buick. He died at Pana Community Hospital. The woman had to be airlifted to a hospital.
Both people in the Buick were from Auburn, Ill. Troopers say they are not releasing either of their names Wednesday.
Brophy refused medical treatment. Troopers say possible charges are pending during an investigation.
