EFFINGHAM, Ill. (WAND) — A 34-year-old man died after being hit by a train Wednesday afternoon.
Police said Travis D. Ingram was hit by a Canadian National Freight train while crossing the tracks on a bicycle. Officers found him around 4:45 p.m. lying near the tracks at the crossing on Jefferson Street. He was taken to a hospital, but died shortly after.
Ingram was wearing headphones, according to police, which may have prevented him from hearing the train. While the crossing does have lights and gates, it's in a "quiet zone" where trains don't sound their horns.
