DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A man who was initially charged in connection with a deadly shooting in Decatur has instead pleaded guilty to armed robbery. 

Kearius Evans entered the plea and had all other charges dropped. He was sentenced to 21 years in prison with credit for time served between May 30, 2023, through Nov. 18, 2024. 

Evans was one of three people who were arrested in connection with the shooting death of Cameron K. Taylor.

According to Decatur Police, on February 6, 2023, officers responded to the 500 block of S. 19th Street in reference to a person who had been shot.

When officers arrived, they found Taylor with multiple gunshot wounds.

Taylor was transported to the hospital, where he later died.

Detectives with the Decatur Police Department responded to investigate and process the scene.

Three people were arrested and charged with First Degree Murder:

  • Jarvis J McClelland, 26
