SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — A Springfield man convicted of first-degree murder, home invasion, armed robbery, and theft has been sentenced to 37 years in prison.
Dayne Woods was found guilty by a Sangamon County jury this past June. His charges stem from the murder of Dohndre Hughes in 2018.
Springfield Police said that, in the early morning hours of Feb. 23, 2018, Woods and a co-defendant forced their way through the back door of Hughes’ home, in the 1900 block E. Jackson Street in Springfield.
Evidence presented at the trial argued that Woods stabbed Hughes in the chest during a struggle. Hughes died from the stab wound.
After the conviction, State’s Attorney John Milhiser said, “The jury’s verdict in this case should serve as a reminder that if you engage in dangerous, violent behavior in our community, you will be held accountable for the deadly consequences of your actions."
