NEW BERLIN, Ill. (WAND) - Two people connected to a New Berlin retail theft were identified immediately after a notification was sent through the Sangamon County Sheriff's Office app.
The Sheriff's Office said that the theft happened around 11:30 p.m. Jan. 6 at Road Ranger on 700 King Drive in New Berlin.
An investigation found that a man distracted the only worker on site while a woman stole more than $800 worth of cigarettes behind the counter.
Both eventually ran off in a dark-colored SUV.
The suspects were identified within five minutes after a notification was sent out through the Sheriff's app.
Police identified the suspects as 36-year-old Christopher Rixner and 35-year-old Melissa Hubbard, both of Springfield. Arrest warrants were issued for them for retail theft.
