SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - A man who shot at an Illinois state trooper has now been found guilty on all charges.

Sangamon County State's Attorney confirmed to WAND News that a jury found Cristobal Santana guilty of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery to a police officer and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Closing arguments were made Wednesday morning, with the verdict returned around noon.

Sentencing will be Dec. 17, and Santana faces 45 years to life in prison.

Santana shot trooper Kody Chapman-Green in October 2023. ISP said Chapman-Green was conducting a traffic stop when Santana got out of his car and started shooting.

The trooper's dash camera showed the moments shots were fired.

ISP said Santana hit the trooper in the head several times with his gun, then returned to his car and drove away.

Police took Santana into custody later that night following the incident.

ISP Director Brendan Kelly posted a statement to Facebook Aug. 27, thanking the Sangamon County State Attorney's Office and jurors in the trial for "bringing Santana to justice."

"This conviction reaffirms that [an officer's] sacrifice is recognized and justice will not only be pursued, but prevailed," Kelly said in the statement.
