Man who stabbed, killed girlfriend found guilty

PAWNEE, Ill. (WAND) – A jury found a man who killed his girlfriend guilty in court on Thursday.

The jury deliberated for two hours Thursday afternoon before finding Wesley Carey guilty in his girlfriend’s stabbing death. He faced three counts of first-degree murder in Sangamon County court.

Police found Nicole Maxey on Jan. 18, 2016, at the Countryside Manor apartment complex in Pawnee when responding to a report of a disturbance. She later died in hospital care, and investigators determined multiple stab wounds caused her death.

Carey’s bond was set at $2 million after his 2016 arrest in Sangamon County.

He will be sentenced on Jan. 8, 2019.
