Mattoon AMC movie theater to close

MATTOON, Ill. (WAND) - The Mattoon AMC Classic movie theater is shutting its doors. 

Theater staff confirmed it will close Thursday after its showings.  

Mattoon City Manager Kyle Gill told WAND News the theater has been listed for sale for a couple of weeks. He said the city is not sure at this time whether a sale has been made or what the future holds for the building or whether another theater will take the space over. 

AMC purchased the theater, located at 2509 Hurst Drive, in 2010 from Kerasotes. 

WAND News has reached out to AMC's corporate office for comment.
