GEORGETOWN, Ill. (WAND) — American Legion Dornblaser Post 203's Mission K9 Warrior has been reaching veteran dealing with PTSD for almost a decade.

The program helps provide trained dogs to combat veterans at no charge. Their website says the dogs can "literally be a life saving difference in the life of a combat veteran in crisis."

But according to chairman of the board Neal Stephens, there's an uptick in applications and they aren't able to keep up.

"Our organization was doing an average of about seven dogs a year, and this year alone we've already got to our seven dogs and it's May," said Stephens.

Even with the fundraisers they hold throughout the year, they're still in need of more donations.

"We've just depleted our funds and we need to start reboosting. We do a Ride to Thrive which is Mission K9 and the U.S. Military Vets Motorcycle Club put on a ride, we do that in May and then we have car shows," said Stephens.
