MONTICELLO, Ill. (WAND) - On Monday night, members of the Monticello City Council amended and approved a contract for the Oberheim Park development.Â
The board members discussed the option of allocating additional funding for more durable materials throughout the park. Original planning included the use of asphalt for park pathways. The city will instead use additional funding for concrete to limit required repairs as the materials age.
The city has committed approximately $7.5 million to create the 35-acre park to ensure the project is built to last.Â
Once completed, the park will feature two soccer fields, two baseball fields, and a multi-use path.
Construction can begin as early as July 1, 2025.
