CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WAND) — A cat died in a fire at a multi-family apartment building in Champaign on Friday, December 13.
The Champaign Fire Department said in a news release that they responded to a fire in an apartment building near N. Lynn St. and W. Columbia Ave. on Friday around 10:35 p.m.
They said the crew noticed heavy smoke and fire coming from the 2-story building. When they arrived, every resident was out of the building.
While firefighters quickly put the fire under control, one person was sent to the hospital with injuries.
First responders treated one person at the complex. No firefighters were hurt.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
