Emily Getman and Dylan Romer

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — Conspiracy to commit murder charges have been dropped for a couple who allegedly drove from New York State to Springfield with plans to kill the woman's father.

Emily Getman, 21, and Dylan Romer, 29, appeared in court Thursday. Both were charged with one count of conspiracy to commit murder. Getman had also been charged with aggravated battery and criminal damage to property.

In late February, Springfield police said that the pair had driven from Mohawk, NY with plans to kill Getman's father in Springfield. Police found them near Sangamon Avenue and North Dirksen Parkway. A shotgun was found in the car, along with personal items indicating a road trip.

Romer was charged and granted pretrial release, while Getman was hospitalized. During her time in the hospital, Getman was also charged with aggravated battery from slamming a door on a nurse's foot according to court documents, as well as criminal damage to property from pulling a sink off a wall.

In court, Getman pleaded guilty to the two lesser charges. The conspiracy charges were dropped for both.

Judge John Madonia sentenced Getman to 24 months of probation which is being transferred to New York. She must also pay restitution to the hospital and write a letter of apology to the nurse.

WAND News has reached out to Sangamon County State's Attorney John Milhiser for comment, but haven't heard back.
