SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) — Police say a man and woman have been arrested on charges of conspiracy to commit first degree murder after driving from New York state to Springfield with plans to kill the woman's father.
Court documents show that Emily Getman, 21, and Dylan Romer, 29, were arrested in Springfield on Friday. A Springfield police sergeant said that Getman said she and her boyfriend, Romer, had driven from Mohawk, NY with plans to kill her father in Springfield.
Springfield police said that the department had received information regarding the pair and their plans to lure Getman's father and murder him.
Police found them near Sangamon Avenue and North Dirksen Parkway. A shotgun was found in the car, along with personal items indicating a road trip.
Romer was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and granted pretrial release.
Getman was hospitalized, before being taken to the Sangamon County Jail on a charge of conspiracy to commit murder. In addition, Getman was also charged with aggravated battery from slamming a door on a nurse's foot according to court documents, as well as criminal damage to property from pulling a sink off a wall.
Both will return to court next month.
