'Manipulative pedophile' to spend life in prison

DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) – A murder suspect is in custody following a Decatur shooting investigation.

The U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested the man accused of killing 25-year-old Marcqui Apholone, identified as 44-year-old Dante Wade, in Romeoville. Police say he left Decatur soon after the shooting, which happened on the night of Nov. 8.

After an investigation by detectives in the last several weeks, police say they issued a warrant for first-degree murder against Wade.

A witness told WAND-TV they heard five gunshots and watched a car speed away from the scene, which was near the intersection of Whitmer Street and 21st Street in Decatur. Police taped off the area after 7:30 p.m. that night.

Multiple gunshot wounds claimed Apholone’s life.

Police say Wade was not yet in Macon County custody as of 6:30 p.m. Monday.
