SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WAND) - I-55 southbound in Springfield is closed due to a multi-vehicle crash, according to Illinois State Police.Â
ISP Troop 7 posted on Facebook Saturday afternoon that the crash happened in the southbound lanes near I-72, which is also the exit for Clearlake Avenue.Â
It's not clear the number of fatalities or if there are other injuries. ISP also hasn't said how many vehicles were involved.Â
Southbound traffic is being diverted at Exit 100, which is the Sangamon Avenue exit.Â
The road is expected to be closed for several hours.Â
Saturdays snow has significantly impacted travel across central Illinois. Law enforcement and county officials in several areas have been asking people to stay off the roads.Â
