DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - A new Aldi store in Decatur is now one step closer to being a reality.
During a council meeting Monday night, the Decatur City Council voted to rezone property near the intersection of Pershing Road and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. The area was rezoned from a planned shopping district to a commercial district, due to a petition of Aldi stores in support of plans to build a new grocery store in the area.
The decision comes after a setback for a new Aldi store, as the Decatur City Council voted more than a year ago to not allow construction of a new store in the area of U.S. 51 and Ash Avenue.
