DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — Decatur Police Chief Shane Brandel had his last assignment on Friday, presenting a chief badge to new Chief Brad Allen.

Allen will take over for Brandel, who announced his retirement in March. Brandel has 28 years of service, including 4 as chief of police.

Allen also made his deputy chief official, presenting Erik Ethell with a deputy chief badge. Ethell has been with DPD for 17 years, and has served as a lieutenant since 2022.

Allen and Ethell officially start on Saturday, May 10.
