DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) - There is officially a second homeless shelter in Decatur. God's Shelter of Love received a generous donation of a property in which they turned into a home.
"We are one of only two agencies in town that offers emergency shelter for women and children so because of our long waiting list and the offer of the donation of this house, we've been able to expand our mission to reach more people," said Executive Director Ed Bacon.
The emergency shelter is now called "The Careage House" that was made for women and children in extremely serious situations. The house itself fits a capacity of 16 women and children.
The house has bins, beds, sofa's, a bathroom, and small kitchen area for community members who request the space.
" We also offer job skills training and resource referrals to help people get on their feet, " said Ed Bacon.
God's Shelter of Love hopes to be a resource to the community and help them find a safe space to spend a night in.
