DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — No one was hurt after a fire at a processing plant at Archer Daniels Midland Company in Decatur on Monday afternoon, according to the company.

Decatur firefighters responded to ADM around 3 p.m. for a fire in the Sorbitol production department, according to ADM Spokesman Dane Lisser. Decatur Fire Department Battalion Chief Brian Lockwood said fire was located on the roof line on the west side of the corn plant.

The impacted building is near the ADM East Plant off East Faries Parkway.

Lisser said nearby operations were shut down and employees were evacuated as a precaution. The "all-clear" was given at 4:30 p.m.

Decatur fire officials said the fire prompted a 2nd-alarm which allowed for additional resources to fight the fire.

WAND News discovered part of a building with blackened areas near the roof. Several ladder trucks were needed at the building near Gat 2.

It's not clear what started the fire.

A text message Monday afternoon to customers said ADM was no longer accepting corn trucks. An updated text message in the evening said corn would not be accepted on Tuesday. It's not clear when corn shipments would start up again.

Lisser said the fire was contained to the processing plant.

A 3-alarm fire in Aug. 2023 prompted facility evacuations and sent two firefighters to the hospital. That fire kept crews on scene for 12 hours. It was located in the feed house of the corn processing plant.
