DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — The Northeast Community Fund will offer additional support to families in Decatur and Macon County this holiday season.

The organization will pass out Thanksgiving food and fixings to people for free in the community leading up to the holiday. Rather than passing out full boxes as in recent years, the Northeast Community Fund will offer a shopping experience for families needing food and items for Thanksgiving.

"We are trying to reduce waste a little bit and give people the freedom of choice, so they can come in this year and shop around," said Joshua Perkins, Northeast Community Fund.

The organization will be doing a few pre-packed boxes for local organizations to distribute, but the majority of families who come to the Northeast Community Fund will be able to shop for their items.

Northeast Community Fund is a community-driven organization and relies on community donations and help. The organization said it could use volunteers to help, to learn more click here.
