DECATUR, Ill. (WAND) — On October 5, around 6:00 a.m., Decatur Police secured a perimeter around a house in the 1600 block of North Morgan St. Police said, a 31-year-old man had fired a shot at his mother after threatening to kill her. He then barricaded himself inside while threatening to harm himself.
The man's mother was able to escape the house unharmed.
The Decatur Police Department's Emergency Response team negotiated with the man for several hours. Police say hours later, the man left the house, and authorities took him into custody. The man was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation due to threats he made to himself and others.
Police say an investigation is till ongoing and numerous charges are pending.
